Last week I wrote Mere Words, about how beautiful and loving our words can be- or not. This week, I want to dig deeper with you, take you into the depths of the power that your words can have on a much grander scale. Words create thoughts; thoughts become real life experiences, and so we influence our world in mighty ways. Come. Let’s go on a word adventure and dig deeper!
For the past decade there have been many books and inspirational movies on the topic of manifesting your dreams. The importance of what we think and how we speak is stressed in every book and movie. This is very powerful stuff. The mind is our most powerful tool and yet so few of us know how it works or what it can do for us. In the mind, everything is happening in the present moment. This can be good, or it can work against us if our tendency is to ruminate about negative experiences or conversations that we have been a part of in the past. This same phenomena can be used to our advantage when our desire is to heal through guided imagery. It allows us to go back in time and heal what needs to be dealt with because in the mind it is happening in the present moment. We use imagery and our words to heal what has happened to us.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we didn’t need to do this, if our words to each other were always kind and thought through?
So much damage can be done in such a short amount of time by using mere words against someone- even ourselves. What has taken years to achieve and believe can be destroyed or damaged in a way that someone may never be the same again. We need to honor what our words can create- in both directions- the positive or the negative, and concentrate on building up, rather than tearing down our fellow humans.
We have all seen it- a situation where someone’s words have caused hurt and harm-but the greatest devastation of all is when those words destroy someone’s spirit. This is the hardest thing in the world to watch happen to someone you love. Their very soul feels defeated, and there is absolutely nothing you can do to repair the damage someone else has wrought. You would give your own soul’s health to restore theirs if you could.
What are people thinking when they spew venom at another living soul? This speaks to me of the torment that individual must be struggling with in their own life to be able to wreak such havoc. The internal struggles that are so strong that they spill out and harm others is a very deep struggle that needs to be dealt with, not recklessly thrown outward like knives aimed at a target. What has caused such torture within? What is it that they are having such a hard time letting go of or facing?
We each have a right to our own opinions and beliefs. What we do NOT have a right to do is jam them down another person’s throat. That is not honoring to either person. The sharing of ideas and thoughts is a very sacred thing. This is how we get to know another person and connect on an entirely new level. We must honor their willingness to open themselves up and trust us enough to expose more of who they really are and not shove our own beliefs down their throats and expect all to go well. There is room for many ideas and beliefs in our world. It is part of what makes this life so special. Each day we are privileged to make new choices and connections and to live this life to the fullest.
Where is your zest for life? Are you hiding it? Has it become so jaded that you aren’t being true to your soul? Do you believe yourself to be so righteous that you are above being kind and honoring of others? Watch what you do in the name of your specific beliefs when they start attacking others. Something is seriously wrong when this begins to happen. Go within. Take a long hard look at what would make you do such things.
Again, what is it that you are not facing?
Then there are the situations that fall somewhere in between manifestation and devastation.
These are the everyday conversations and thoughts that we have over the course of a typical day. What reoccurring thoughts do you have? Are those thoughts of a positive nature? One of the most damaging patterns that we may have are the thoughts that go against ourselves. These thoughts range from things like “having another bad hair day” to more insidious thoughts about body image that are harmful to our emotional well being. Every thought carries the energy of its intention with it. Is this a positive energy that you are sending out to your body, or a negative energy? Thoughts create, and what we give our time, energy, and attention to- we get more of. Are the things that you focus on the positives in your life, or the negatives? Whatever is taking up most of your time you will get more of in your life. Why not create thought patterns that bring to you the situations, people, and adventures that will help you live a life beyond your wildest dreams, rather than a survivor mentality that brings more suffering and pain?
We are all connected, and when one of is hurt, humanity as a whole suffers. Let’s raise our kindness levels to new heights! This is what the world needs, and what every single one of us needs, now, and always. The time is now to reach out in kindness to all we meet. Each and every one of us can make a difference every day by doing all things with great love and presence. Being in each moment fully, and with intentions of spreading joy, kindness, and love. Let’s try it! We can start a new movement, and pay it forward in ways we may not have tried before! Here’s to the power in and of your words!
