Moments

paintsIn spring and summer everything comes alive once more, and nature seems to be bursting at the seams with movement and growth. It is that way for our young adults also as they apply to colleges and universities in hopes of making their dreams come true. This is their first next step. There is a commercial that shows the precise moment when a series of individuals find out they have been accepted to the college of their choice. The joy, exuberance, and passion that shows not only on their faces, but in their entire body language brings a smile to your face. Such unhidden emotion is so easy to get caught up in and find oneself responding to. It is a pleasure to watch someone expressing such unbridled joy!

When was the last time you let yourself feel and express that kind of joy? A joy so huge that your body couldn’t sit still, and your face couldn’t seem to contain it all? I invite you to stop for a moment and see if you can remember the source of that joy. Can you remember it? (Or are you realizing just how long it’s been since you felt this way? Remember, joy has no age restrictions!) Allow yourself to feel it- right now. Can you capture it again? Go on, take a slow, deep breath in, and out, and allow yourself to feel it once again. Ahhh…

What holds you back from living your life like that- arms wide open- to accept all of the experiences life has to offer? Is it fear? That one word alone contains categories of situations for each individual. For some, it might be fear of what others might think of them. Maybe it is fear of being vulnerable- with others, or self. It takes great courage to be vulnerable, especially with yourself. We tend to try to ignore that and bulldoze through our to do lists, which always gives comfort when we are able to cross things off our precious lists.

We forget that life is made up of a series of individual moments that capture a beautiful painting on the canvas we call life. Each moment adds a hue, a shading here and there that is perfect when viewed from a distance (no matter how messy it may seem right now). Every moment is a dance with time. How are you spending your moments? Are you happy with your routine, your daily round?

We have choices every single day of our lives as to how we want to live. We can change direction entirely by making another choice, and that adds movement and color to the painting.

So many seem to be waiting… for something or someone to show them the way, or give them permission to be different or make a huge change in their lives. Give yourself permission! You are the only one in charge of your life! You have the authority to be who you were created to be, and to bring to the world the gifts that only you possess. Without you, these gifts will not come into being in this world. You, your gifts, and timing are all compressed into your canvas, your dance with time, shown in perfection through your movements through the moments of your life.

There is a beautiful poem that I’d like to share, and I ask you to consider living your life this way.

I Will Not Die an Unlived Life

I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire

I choose to inhabit my days to allow my living to open me,

To make me less afraid, more accessible,

To loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch,

A promise.

I choose to risk my significance;

To live so that which came to me as seed

Goes on to the next blossom

And which came to me as blossom

Goes on a fruit.

Our life is a masterpiece on canvas, and is a beautiful culmination of how we spent our moments. I ask you again, how are you spending yours?

Remember, if you are not happy with the way things are for you- you have the authority to change it!

Love and blessings,
